[ROBOPAL] ElliQ cuts loneliness by 95% among NYC older adults
The New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA) and Intuition Robotics will continue their partnership in light of data showing the efficacy of ElliQ in providing companionship to older adults in New York, including a 95% reduction in loneliness and high levels of engagement.
Over the past year, NYSOFA and Intuition Robotics conducted a pilot with more than 800 New Yorkers to assess the potential benefits of ElliQ in combating loneliness, fostering engagement, improving overall health and wellness, and supporting aging-in-place.
In addition to combating loneliness, unpublished data from the NYSOFA pilot suggest that AI companion ElliQ also led to a large improvement in well-being among older adults using the platform. The New York users also showed exceptionally high levels of engagement consistently over time, interacting with their ElliQ over 30 times per day, 6 days a week. More than 75% of these interactions are related to improving the older adults' social, physical and mental well-being.
ElliQ is proactive and personalized: it initiates conversation, suggests activities, remembers what users tell it, and encourages and works with users to set and help achieve goals. It is designed to convey empathy and trust, and drive engagement and behavior change.
Over the past year, Intuition Robotics added features aimed at keeping older adults active, connected and engaged, including ElliQ taking users to museum exhibits and road trips; painting using generative AI; mindfulness exercises led by a certified mindfulness instructor; recording life memories in a digital memoir and sharing them with family and friends; and the ability for the NYSOFA staff to send informational video messages about available resources.
