[EATING RIGHT?] 2025 US Dietary Guidelines released for comment
The 2025 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee’s Scientific Report has been submitted to the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), and is now available for comment online. The report contains the committee’s evidence-based findings and advice to the secretaries of HHS and USDA, which will help inform the two departments as they work together to develop the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2025-2030.
To gather public input on the scientific report, HHS and USDA opened a 60-day comment period on December 10 during which interested parties are invited to share their feedback. Additionally, the two departments will hold a virtual public meeting on January 16, 2025, where members of the public will be able to provide oral comments on the scientific report.
HHS and USDA will use the scientific report as a key resource, alongside public comments and federal agency input, as the two departments jointly develop the next edition of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The guidelines are updated every five years and serves as the cornerstone of federal nutrition programs and policies, providing food-based recommendations to help prevent diet-related chronic diseases and promote overall health.
