[NEW RX] Social prescribing for older adults takes off in Canada
Social prescribing is gaining traction across Canada and globally as an innovative approach to integrating health care, social services, and community support, according to a newly published report, “Social Prescribing in Canada: 2025.” The report provides an overview of current social prescribing developments in Canada, examining its implementation, challenges, and successes across diverse geographies through various regional initiatives and case studies.
A special fact sheet on social prescribing for older adults is also available. The fact sheet notes that at least 20% of Canada’s population is over age 65, with close to 43% of those ages 50+ at risk of social isolation and 50% experiencing loneliness.
Developed with contributions from social prescribing leaders across Canada, the report highlights best practices and emerging models, as well as social prescribing's impact on health equity, healthcare sustainability, and community resilience.
