Workplace wellness is great, but don't make me do it

Nearly two-thirds (64%) of organizations serving older adults offer employee wellness programs, according to a survey of 554 respondents to an ICAA survey (ICAA Wellness Industry Development Survey 2012). Many employers offer wellness programs, but employees may not take advantage of them. A recent tactic is to incentive them by asking employees to pay a higher share of health insurance premiums if they do not participate or meet health goals, such as losing weight or lowering blood pressure.

Over half (57%) of 1,410 people ages 49-67 years old responding to a telephone survey planned to take an overnight vacation in the next 12 months, and nearly half (47%) planned on taking one to two weeks of vacation. Why take the vacation? Primary reasons were “to see, connect, or spend time with family and/or friends” (45%) or “for a pure fun, or relaxation” (38%).
