Before depression strikes, play a game
The term subsyndromal depression is used when a person has depressive symptoms, but they do not yet meet the clinical definitions of a disorder. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, subsyndromal depression is common among older people and may increase the risk of developing major depression. Since physical activity can elevate mood, a research team wondered if video games could be used to encourage physical activity among older adults and consequently influence their feelings of well-being.
