Stats: 76% of adults 55+ use digital health

Active-aging organizations may want to pay more attention to their digital health platforms and infrastructure, as 2022 saw digital health adoption increases among groups that have long been underserved, according to the latest survey from Rock Health. Of note, the biggest year-over-year increases were seen among respondents ages 55+ (76%, up from 64% in 2021); those living in rural areas (73%, up from 60%); and respondents without health insurance at the time of the survey (50%, up from 37%)

It is the first global analysis of the statistical relationships between total and sector-level wellness economy spending and various measures of happiness and health outcomes.

Stats: Half of US women forgo preventive health services

A new Ipsos poll commissioned by the Alliance for Women's Health and Prevention (AWHP) reveals that nearly half of American women (45%) are forgoing preventive care services such as check-ups and screenings, and the inability to afford out-of-pocket costs is the most common reason (25%) cite for skipping this critical care. The survey of a US national sample of 3,204 women looked at women's experiences with preventive healthcare, the challenges they face accessing it and the disparities that exist. The information could be helpful to senior living organizations looking to encourage preventive strategies among their constituents, and to support those who are experiencing problems.

Stats: 13% of adults 50-80 addicted to junk food

About 13% of people ages 50 to 80 showed signs of addiction to highly processed foods and beverages - also referred to as junk foods, empty calories, comfort foods - in the past year, new data from the National Poll on Healthy Aging suggest. Given the potential adverse health effects, organizations might consider ways to identify such individuals and refer them for help.
