Physical activity higher among dog owners
Among 547 people ages 65 and older (average age 79) living in a community in Scotland, about 50 people were dog owners and 75% of these walked their dogs. Over a seven-day period participants wore an accelerometer to measure their movements.

A stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted, either because of blockage by a blood clot (ischemic) or a hemorrhage. May is American Stroke Month and a good time to remember that stroke is the fourth cause of death in the United States (American Heart Association). Go for seven servings a day of vegetables and fruit
In an effort to encourage people to eat more vegetables and fruit, the slogan “Five a Day” is used to set a goal for daily consumption. The Five-a-Day slogan has been adopted in the United States (Fruits and Veggies More Matters) and the United Kingdom (National Health Service), among other countries. New research suggests that eating two additional servings might lower risk of mortality.
