ICAA invites journalists to learn how the active-aging industry is addressing issues related to population aging
Association’s conference showcases practical approaches that support health, wellness and independence for older adults
(VANCOUVER, BC)— According to the Global AgeWatch Index report recently released by the United Nations Population Fund and HelpAge International, the world is not prepared for population aging. Preparation to date has varied from country to country, but so much more needs to be done even in places that are further along in their efforts. The International Council on Active Aging® (ICAA), an association that leads, connects and defines the active-aging industry, invites journalists to join attendees at the ICAA Conference 2013 to learn more about an industry that is taking action. Media representatives may register for the conference at no charge.
Taking place November 21–23 at the San Diego Convention Center, ICAA’s multilevel education and networking event focuses on the theme of "Transforming ideas into action." The three-day meeting will highlight practical tools and methods for attendees to use in promoting health and wellness for adults ages 50 and older. And practical information will provide forward-thinking perspectives for planning and development.
ICAA conference attendees may choose from more than 50 educational sessions. General topic areas include program design for wellness, research, management and leadership, brain fitness, marketing and sales, outdoor programs, therapy to wellness, and balance. In addition, ICAA’s meeting takes place in conjunction with the Athletic Business Conference & Expo and its other partner events, the Medical Fitness Association Conference and the National Alliance for Youth Sports Congress. ICAA attendees may go to educational seminars at these conferences free of charge.
Among event highlights are:
Stimulating keynotes: ICAA will feature keynote presenter Henry S. Lodge, MD, FACP, Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine, Columbia University Medical Center, Board Certified Internist, and coauthor of the New York Times’ bestselling Younger Next Year books. Lodge will give an inside look at the next generation of cognitive science. Other keynote sessions include gerontologist Ken Dychtwald, PhD, President and CEO, Age Wave; and Earvin “Magic” Johnson, CEO, NBA Legend, and Dodgers Owner.
Story ideas: ICAA’s educational lectures and workshops will be presented by industry leaders and experts whose programs, approaches and research are advancing active aging. Journalists can learn about developments in cognitive health, training physical function, and marketing to the 50-plus demographic, among other things. And they will gain access to professionals whose work at a grassroots level addresses challenges and promotes opportunities associated with population aging. A full list of sessions and speakers is provided at http://www.icaa.cc/conferenceandevents/conference2013/schedule.pdf.
ICAA’s complimentary media registration also allows access to an expo featuring products and services from more than 300 companies. This premier event for the health and wellness industry showcases the changing landscape of health, wellness and recreation offerings across the levels of function. Journalists will discover the newest innovations in technology, equipment and services targeted specifically to age 50-plus adults in the ICAA Pavilion, located in the exhibit hall.
Conference details and hotel information are available at http://www.icaa.cc/conferenceandevents/overview.htm. Media representatives may register for the event by emailing info@icaa.cc.
