Palates 360: Morrison's new concept aims to transform community dining
How can senior living communities better meet the needs and wants of the Silent Generation? Morrison Senior Living, a division of Morrison Management Specialists, has extensively researched this issue over the past three years, including interviews with residents and community leaders. The result is a framework of six strategies, called “The Essential Elements of Transformation,” intended to help communities serve the demographic group that now ranges in age from mid-60s to mid-80s. 20in10: how Touchmark's wellness tips campaign expanded awareness
In 2009, with Touchmark about to enter its 30th year, the company decided on a 2010 goal of expanding wellness awareness and emphasizing all the dimensions of wellness. A key way to increase understanding “was to seek people’s input about how they could ‘experience wellness in less than 10 minutes’ several times a day,” Coalman says. So Touchmark created a campaign, called 20in10: 20 Tips to Wellness You Can Do in 10 Minutes. To learn more, the Journal on Active Aging® recently asked Coalman, a longtime contributor and a member of the ICAA Advisory Board, what was involved in this multifaceted, yearlong campaign.

Beyond the new: ICAA trailblazers are making a difference in the lives of older adults
In the 2009 report “Powering Ideas: An Innovation Agenda for the 21st Century,” Australia’s Innovation Minister, Senator Kim Carr, defines innovation in a way that goes beyond the usual meaning of introducing something new. “Innovation is not an abstraction,” states Carr. “Nor is it an end itself. It is how we make a better Australia, and contribute to making a better world ….” In Carr’s view, innovation is more than an instrument for advancing businesses or industries. It is also a tool for shaping society for the better—a goal shared by the International Council on Active Aging® (ICAA).
