In a recent article in the Canadian Medical Association Journal (181[5] September 1, 2009), the author pointed out that during times of economic recession, the death rate in richer countries declines, while the death rate in poor countries increases. This results from the combination of economic capacity and social policy. Short of mortality, simply worrying about job loss during uncertain economic times has the potential to affect the health of people who are still employed.

Blair noted that emerging research is showing how physical activity promotes brain health.
