Depression is a precursor to heart disease
Depression is experienced by two million US adults 65 years and older, and 5 million have some symptoms of depression (NIH Senior Health). Heart disease, a term that includes a number of cardiovascular conditions, remains the number-one cause of death in the United States. A recent spate of studies indicates that depression not only leads to heart disease, it also increases the risk of death.
