Healthy diet reduces risk of falls, but not of fractures

The 15-year Women’s Health Initiative study included 161,808 women ages 50-79 years. One component of that study was the Dietary Modification Trial. The intervention participants followed an eating pattern that included 20% of calories from total fat, five or more daily servings of vegetables and fruits, and six or more daily servings of grains. Researchers continue to use the data that was collected to analyze risk factors for cancer. A new examination used the data to evaluate risk of osteoporosis and falls.
