Call to action: lifestyle changes to prevent hypertension
REPORT: A committee reported that nearly one-third of US adults have hypertension, which accounts for about one in six adult deaths annually. The committee’s review of the science pointed to overweight, inactivity and unhealthy diets containing too much salt and too little potassium as the major risk factors for high blood pressure. Although these risks can be prevented through behavioral changes, the typical American community and lifestyle make a poor diet and inactivity easier patterns to fall into than healthy eating and active living.
