Home design helps people with dementia to age in place

Home modifications can make it easier for aging adults to perform activities of daily living. The most frequently purchased home modification reported by the National Association of Home Builders’ Remodelers are adding grab bars, installing higher toilets, upgrading to a curb-less showers, widening doorways and constructing ramps or lower thresholds (ICAA Research Review, 9[20] 2009). Background to a recent study stated that, in industrialized nations, most people with mild-to-moderate dementia live at home.
