Native American viewpoints on successful aging
In Canada, just over 1.3 million people reported having at least some Aboriginal ancestry (North American Indian, Métis or Inuit) in 2001, representing 4.4 % of the total population (Statistics Canada). In 2009 in the United States, an estimated 5 million people reported being American Indians and Alaska Natives, including those of more than one race, representing 1.6% of the total population (US Census Bureau). A special issue of the Journal of Cross-Cultural Gerontology explores aging and health among the indigenous people of North America.
