Older adults who think they can, do

Self-efficacy is broadly defined as a person’s belief in his or her ability to accomplish something. If people believe they can (or cannot) improve their cognitive skills and memory, will that belief affect their success at doing so? To find out, a team of researchers measured the effectiveness of a training program based in inductive reasoning, where people look at specific examples or instances, find patterns and then use these to derive general conclusions.
