Prevalence and costs of obesity keeps rising

Early this year, an analysis of adults in 199 countries found that, while levels of overweight and obesity varied, an estimated 502 million adults were obese and 1.46 billion adults had a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or higher, indicating overweight (The Lancet, 377[9765]:557-567, February 12, 2011).
