Vegetables and fruit lower women's risk of stroke
Antioxidants are found in many foods, including fruits and vegetables, nuts, grains, and some meats, poultry and fish (National Library of Medicine). According to background for a new study, antioxidants—such as vitamins C and E, carotenoids and flavonoids—can inhibit oxidative stress and inflammation. Oxidative stress is an imbalance between the production of cell-damaging free radicals and the body’s ability to neutralize them. It leads to inflammation, blood vessel damage and stiffening.
