Metabolic syndrome declines, but women's waistlines increase
The metabolic syndrome is a combination of health risk factors: a high level of triglycerides (fats stored in fat cells), low levels of HDL “good” cholesterol, hypertension, abdominal obesity and high fasting glucose levels (high blood sugar). The syndrome itself as well as its components are linked to cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
