The closer to a Mediterranean diet, the better for cognition
At the start of the study, 2,326 people ages 70-79 years (38.2% Black) completed food frequency questionnaires, which were translated to MedDiet scores. Participants from a Black racial background, on average, ate more meat, poultry and full-fat dairy products while Whites ate more nonrefined grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes and olive oil and drank more alcohol. Over eight years, cognitive status was assessed using the Modified Mini-Mental Examination.
