A systematic review reported earlier this year in ICAA Research Review (11[26] July 2011) showed that prolonged sitting, including while watching television, led to mortality and weight gain from childhood through adulthood. The authors concluded that a growing body of evidence suggests that sedentary behavior may be a distinct risk factor for health problems in adults.

However, physical activity can benefit people with arthritis by easing stiffness in the joint, managing weight, elevating mood and potentially easing the pain.
