Creating a community without walls: The Cardinal at North Hills case study by Martha Grove Hipskind, MSPH
Imagine a place where people of all ages and interests gather. This beautifully landscaped urban setting caters to every possible need within walking distance, so people walk to shop, dine, work and play. Vibrancy fills the air and activity fills the streets. This is The Cardinal at North Hills—senior living that starts where the bricks and mortar end.
Even though the first residents have yet to move in, a distinctive culture already exists at the Raleigh, North Carolina, continuing care retirement community (CCRC). The design of this community within a community shifts traditional thinking about independence and marries devotion to wellness and living life to the fullest with a multigenerational neighborhood that people enjoy visiting.
